Staff Training

June 3 — June 15

New staff are required to attend the entirety of Staff Training. Returning staff must also attend unless given special circumstances. It's the best way to learn about GRP and to build our staff family for the summer!

Rotating staff: we recommend you attend at least Senior Mentor Weekend.

Community Building

Tom Heck
TBD
Join us for a morning of team challenges, fun, absurdity and reflection that will help us grow closer as a community. Run by our beloved GRP parent and friend Tom Heck.

Senior Mentor Weekend
TBD
Join us for a weekend of hikes, campfires, and stories with our infamous Senior Mentors

Campout

Date is TBA

Ah, Campout. The most epic part of the GRP experience -- and the most adventurous part of Staff Training! We spend the evening before packing and preparing. The next day, we split into small groups, including new and returning staff in each, and head out on our trails.

We spend two nights camping on the Preserve, learning the basics of Leave No Trace principles, shelter locations and trails, cooking and campsite management, and how to lead a trip for campers. Staff Campout is a great time to learn basics of backpacking or to share your knowledge with others.

Activity Training

Date is TBA

We devote two training days to learning our Activities and how to teach them. Activity Coordinators should plan to lead elective periods for staff and intensive periods that focus on activity instruction. Rotating staff are welcome to attend one or both of these days to help us train new staff in activities!
